British broadcaster Channel 4 is currently looking into new ways to implement DAB radio into already-existing devices such as mobile phones and mp3 players. Channel 4 is in talks with various electronics manufacturers to develop an branded plug-in device that delivers DAB software and hardware for release to coincide with the launch of the broadcaster's new radio service, E4 Radio. The device will allow unrestricted access to radio channels other than E4 Radio and will cost no more than £20. While some manufacturers have already developed similar devices, Channel 4 hopes that the strength of its brand will facilitate marketing DAB to young people. The UK's digital radio industry suffered a great blow in February when GCap media, the largest British commercial radio group, announced that it planned to leave digital radio.
