Gwent police force has designed the cells of its newly built station, Ystrad Mynach police station, with colour psychology in mind. Door frames are painted a calming yellow and a royal blue strip inside the cells is hoped to encourage truthfullness. 4 of the 31 new cells also have glass doors, which are designed to reassure claustrophobic inmates.

Gwent is not the first British force to experiment with colour to pacify or persuade prisoners to co-operate. In the 1990s Strathclyde Police used pink in cells based on research carried out by the US Navy. [Times Online] Full Story.
