Two of the world’s biggest film industries will be joining forces to strengthen their business endeavours as announced this past Wednesday from the

Motion Picture Association of America. Combining Hollywood and Bollywood will culminate in a Los-Angeles-India Film Council; this will include ways to ‘develop and strengthen motion picture production, distribution, technology, content production and commercial cooperation’. Also on the cards is increasing the number of Indian films produced in the US as well as provide 20-25% tax incentives to Indian productions, much like the traditional LA business structure. Figures show that 2.4 million people in the US and 1.8 million in India are dedicated to the motion picture and television industries, proving that combining forces could signal increased cross-pollination of story ideas, job growth and economic development.
