"People are calling Croydon the UK's answer to Detroit". BBC 1Xtra's J Da Flex investigates the new hybrid sound of the garage underground, championed by producers in their bedrooms making music on little more than a Playstation or a PC.

When someone mentions UK Garage, you'll probably think of the government panicking about trigger happy MCs or the scared promoters who cancel raves for fear of body bags. On the other hand you might think of chart friendly acts like Misteeq or So Solid's Romeo oiling up his naked chest, oh yeah, and nuff champagne! Dizzee Rascal, MC & Producer "There's a lot of people on their computers making tunes. There's a generation where being on the computer and programming beats is second nature to a lot of youth right now. I started when I was about thirteen or fourteen, just doing it in school. Neil, Promoter 'Forward' "It started about two years ago and it filled a nieche that we thought was empty for this kind of music. The DJs are drawing from dub, they're drawing from drum 'n' bass and they're drawing from techno, reggae and world music! It's like an anthropology lesson!" listen to the documentary [here](http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/onemusicdata/lamacqlive/newstep329.shtml?ref=protein.xyz)
