# Hyper-Matrix

Created for the [Hyundai Motor Group](http://worldwide.hyundai.com/WW/Main/index.html?ref=protein.xyz) Exhibition Pavilion at the 2012 [Yeosu EXPO](http://eng.expo2012.kr/main.html?ref=protein.xyz), Seoul based experimental media arts collective [Jonpasang](http://jonpasang.com/?ref=protein.xyz) have showcased their ‘kinetic vertical landscape’ installation, [Hyper-Matrix](https://vimeo.com/46857169?ref=protein.xyz). The immersive work combines 3D projection mapping techniques, a sound design and thousands of undulating 30x30cm cubes. The wall’s facade is operated by integrated stepping motors, digitally choreographed to alter its interior shape in a mesmerising display of mechanical art.

When artists and engineers have previously collaborated on projection mapping showcases, exhibited in [Dane Luttik’s recent documentary](http://prote.in/feed/2012/06/augmented-reality-projection-mapping?ref=protein.xyz), the technology is conventionally used to animate static spaces. Hyper-Matrix instead takes a literal approach to animating environments, not only visually, but also physically.

Like other automobile marketing projects we've seen (think [Audi City](http://prote.in/feed/2012/07/audi-city?ref=protein.xyz) or [Data Anatomy \[civic\]](http://prote.in/feed/2012/04/data-anatomy?ref=protein.xyz)), this is another interesting example of an auto-brand showcasing their cutting edge technology with an engaging installation.
