Following the destruction of the two monumental 5th century Buddhas of Bamyan by the Taliban in 2001 \[which took over one month of heavy artillery fire since the monuments were carved into mountainside\] Japanese quantum-inspired chroma sculptor, Hiro Yamagata has been commissioned to create an on-site installation, projecting [neon Buddhas](http://www.bamiyanlaser.org/index.html?ref=protein.xyz) into the voids left by the destruction. Utilising a network of 140+ long and short range multicoloured laser beams installed at distances of 500m, 1 km and 5 km the Yamagata Buddhas are powered by solar energy and wind turbines.
