With the opening of this year's [FIGMENT design festival](http://figmentproject.org/?ref=protein.xyz) on Governors island, New York, last weekend the winner of the [City of Dreams](http://newyork.figmentproject.org/?ref=protein.xyz) design competition finally came to fruition. Built from tens of thousands of plastic bottles this [giant cloud](http://studiokca.com/index.php?ref=protein.xyz#/projects/head-in-the-clouds/Head%5FIn%5FThe%5FClouds%5FFinal%5FSubmission%5Fv5) designed by [S](http://studiokca.com/?ref=protein.xyz)[tudioKCA](http://studiokca.com/?ref=protein.xyz) doesn't only create a festival pavilion that invites visitors into on dream-like environment but also calls attention to the true amount of the rubbish thrown away everyday.  
  
The 53,000 plastic bottles and jugs – the exact number of plastic bottles thrown away in New York every hour – were contributed by local companies and individuals. To achieve the otherworldly ambience inside the pavilion; the bottles were filled with blue liquid that reflects the light in different ways. By [constructing functional pieces from waste](https://www.prote.in/feed/2013/02/sea-chair?ref=protein.xyz) many artist art making a statement against the world wide waste pollution and for a better recycling ethic.
