If you’ve ever had the misfortune to sit in a meeting by a brand strategist talking up his latest graphic identity solution, then you might have heard a phrase at some point about graphics being able to ‘speak’.

Graphics don’t speak, obviously, but they can make music, according to Malaysian designer [Wen Nam Yap’s](http://wengnamyap.com/?ref=protein.xyz) new installation called Graphics Speak.

Yap created a system that plays music from a series graphic designs on vinyl records. Each vinyl is scanned on to an analogue television device, which creates an electromagnetic waveform. These are then turned into sound waves using a sensor, and in turn played out a speaker. The result is a tuneful sound that can be altered by changing the graphics of the records being played.
