# Gesture-Gesture

Gesture control is undergoing [something of a boom](https://www.prote.in/en/feed/2014/02/aether-project?ref=protein.xyz) in the [world of tech-led](https://www.prote.in/en/feed/2014/04/zx-concept?ref=protein.xyz) art [installations](https://www.prote.in/en/feed/2014/03/may-the-force-be-with-you?ref=protein.xyz), and at the same time, [so too is the animated GIF](https://www.prote.in/en/feed/2014/05/everything-all-at-once?ref=protein.xyz). Now one artist has combined the two.  
An installation, [Gesture-Gesture](http://yopablo.com/Gesture-Gesture?ref=protein.xyz), was put in place for FOREWARD at Atlanta's [Gallery 72](http://www.ocaatlanta.com/?post%5Ftype=programs&p=6158&ref=protein.xyz). Visitors placed their hands into sleeves hidden inside a box where software recorded three seconds of movement before creating a GIF. These are then projected onto gallery walls, each new animation replacing the last.  
Gesture-Gesture was a collaboration between New York's [Pablo Gnecco](http://yopablo.com/About?ref=protein.xyz) and coded by [Dan Moore](http://makeitdoathing.com/?ref=protein.xyz) using custom software built in openFrameworks. The result is fleeting recordings of individual hand gestures that appear just for a moment in a physical space. But behind the scenes each image is also sent online, culminating in the anonymous archiving of participants' movements, which can be viewed digitally at [Gesture-Gesture.com](http://gesture-gesture.com/?ref=protein.xyz).
