# Craftica

Design studio, [Formafantasma](http://www.formafantasma.com/?ref=protein.xyz) has developed a range of domestic objects made from a mixture of leather off-cuts and natural materials for [Fendi's](http://www.fendi.com/?ref=protein.xyz)[Craftica](http://basel2012.designmiami.com/sponsors/view/fendi2/?ref=protein.xyz) project, currently being presented at the [Design Miami/Base](http://basel2012.designmiami.com/?ref=protein.xyz)l forum in Switzerland.

Craftica has been designed by [Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Ferrasin](http://www.formafantasma.com/about%5Fus.html?ref=protein.xyz) and is intended to explore the relationship between leather and other hand-worked and natural materials. By juxtaposing discarded leather from Fendi's cutting room with pig skin, fish skin, cow's bladder, cork and tree bark, not only is leather is presented in a different aesthetic light supposed to evoke its ancestral context, but it helps open a conversation about production, resources and the connection between humans and nature.

Similar to Fendi's Design Performances that have been taking place since 2009, Fendi craftsmen and the two designers, will be putting on live demonstrations of the production process behind the collection and creating more pieces to add to the ouevre.

[Craftica](http://www.formafantasma.com/home%5Fcraftica.html?ref=protein.xyz) is a fantastic example of the post-luxury trend where traditional notions of ostentation and showmanship are being increasingly eschewed in favour of products that engender experience and emotion. Furthermore, it demonstrates the way in which designers are not only seeking more eco-friendly materials but challenging the idea of luxury materials.
