https://d2pq0u4uni88oo.cloudfront.net/projects/1578657/video-497652-h264\_high.mp4 Everyday objects are becoming interconnected devices in the Internet of Things revolution. Take Los Angeles-based startup [Beam](http://www.beamlabsinc.com/?ref=protein.xyz), which has turned the humble light fitting into a projector allowing users to be introduce interfaces to almost any surface.

With iPhone, Android and WiFi connectivity, Beam allows users to make their solitary digital lives a more communal experience in the home. If you've ever wanted to project a board game onto your table, or follow a recipe projected onto your kitchen worktop, Beam makes that possible.

The beauty of Beam is that it provides an outlet in our increasingly connected homes, a phenomenon which will only become more important with the impending release of the Apple Watch, as well as other advances in wearable technology.

Products such as the [Cicret ](https://www.prote.in/en/feed/2015/01/cicret-bracelet?ref=protein.xyz)bracelet provide further evidence of the trend towards making everyday surfaces interactive, even down to our own skin. Not only can we expect to see an endless variety of content projected onto our walls, a companion app will enable Beam users to pre-record video messages that will play when certain triggers are hit.

The use of 'if this, then that' technology gives Beam a functionality beyond simply transmitting content in our homes, and invites us to consider how other apparently banal items can be given new purpose.
