Travelling on planes is often a long, boring and wholly uninspiring affair, functioning as nothing more than the interlude between two destinations. [Iceland Air](http://www.icelandair.co.uk/?ref=protein.xyz) aims to change that, however, with their new concept product created by students from Central Saint Martins called [\_scape](http://cargocollective.com/scape?ref=protein.xyz), an inflight book inspired by Iceland's nature, sounds and smells. The book, created by [Leslie Borg](http://www.narrative-environments.com/student/602/leslie%20borg?ref=protein.xyz) and Anita Silva, aims to guide passengers on a sensual journey and, 'encourages them to break away from the confinement of their seat by inviting them to embark on an imaginary journey.'

On boarding the flight, each passenger receives a vacuum-packed object which opens to reveal an organic shape, inspired by Icelandic rock, which functions as a book with many layers to explore. When opened, for example, the package releases the scent of vetiver, a traditional Icelandic root, while further within an mp3 device is revealed which transmits tranquil sounds. With a multi-functional design, the book can be used as headphones, or as a soft head rest.

It's an interesting project as it uses multi-sensual experiences to truly engage with passengers, re-imagining how we communicate travel and identity. Check out the video above for more info.
